Li River, Yangshuo, China

After the downpour in Moon Hill Village, we headed to Yangshuo. We really wanted to see the views of the Li River, especially since we didn't get to do the river cruise from Guilin on account of the flooding. We could tell the river was very high. By the next day these steps were totally covered!

The views in Yangshuo were even more breathtaking than in Guilin.

If you are a fan of The Amazing Race you might recall a few seasons ago they stopped in Guilin. The contestants had to go fishing on a bamboo raft just like this one with these large birds, cormorants. Instead of using hooks & line to fish, the cormorants are trained to dive into the water, bringing fish back for the fisherman. Pretty amazing stuff.

I honed my haggling skills in the markets, picking up souvenirs for the girls here and there (and everywhere, if you ask Jon Jon).

The river was high, but calm so we decided to float downstream a while.

We lucked out with the timing and caught the sunset from our little bamboo raft.

After dark the markets came alive! By the time we made it to our hotel we were dead tired:)
